Empty skimmer and pump baskets

A full skimmer basket kills flow and makes your pump work harder for no reason.

What you'll learn

  • Why a full basket makes your pump run hot
  • The weekly rhythm for skimmer + pump basket checks
  • Seasonal adjustments for fall leaf drop
  • What sand or fine particles in the pump basket means

Step by step

  1. Turn off the pump at the timer before opening any baskets.
  2. Lift the skimmer lid, pull out the basket, dump debris, rinse.
  3. Open the pump lid (clear cover on top of the pump housing).
  4. Lift out the pump basket, dump, rinse, replace.
  5. Lid back on hand-tight, turn pump back on.
Safety note

Pump basket filling with fine particles or sand? That's a filter problem, broken lateral in a sand filter or cracked DE grid. Repair call.
